Tatt2Away Aftercare

Tatt2away aftercare: The TEPR hand piece is similar to a tattoo machine in a simplified explanation; operates like a mini-sewing machine; the tattoo needle that is attached to the tattoo needle bar moves up and down very rapidly. In combination with the proprietary fluid, it removes the superficial (epidermis) and penetrates the middle layer (dermis) of the skin. This process creates a superficial abrasion that is about as deep as the thickness of a dime. Properly and professionally done, trans-epidermal pigment release can cause minimal trauma to the skin and the healthy skin bridges to minimize scarring. Depending on the individual's care and reaction to the process, it can take anywhere from 14 to 21 days for the initial scabs to come off and you will see fresh new skin. The start of the healing process begins immediately after the procedure is finished and lasts anywhere from 8 weeks to one year.

Steps to successful healing:

  1. Remove bandage as soon as you arrive home (no longer than two hours from completion)
  2. Wash your hands with mild, scent-free antibacterial soap.
  3. Wash the treatment area in cold water with antibacterial soap. Do NOT use a washcloth or sponge. Lather and rinse a couple times until treatment area is completely clean and no longer slick
  4. Pat dry with a clean towel or paper towel. Air dry for 15 minutes
  5. DO NOT BANDAGE
  6. Expect the area to feel sore and look red for the first few days. The treated area will form small scabs which will drop off after 14-21 days. As the scabs form, the treated area may begin to inch. This is a histamine reaction in the body. You can use a very small amount of hydrocortisone cream, Benadryl ointment, or Aquaphor to reduce itching and any dryness you may experience. Once your scabs have fallen off, we recommend putting lotion on the area and then anti-scar treatment such as “ScarAway” or “Kela-cote” twice daily. All products may be found at your local pharmacy.

Aftercare of the skin is of vital importance and must be followed rigidly to ensure the pigments are properly expelled and the area heals properly.  It will take some time for the skin to fully regain its normal pigments and to properly accept a tan. In the meantime, you will have to look after your skin sensibly and follow the advice given by your technician.

Do's and Don'ts while healing

  • DO change the linens/sheets on your bed frequently
  • DO wear loose clothing around the treatment area (repeated rubbing or friction will irritate your tattoo, it can cause some redness and swelling). FOOT AREA: Try to wear ballet flats instead of flip flops to prevent chafing
  • DO stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water. Your skin is the largest organ in the body, well hydrated skin helps you heal faster.
  • DO call you technician with ANY CONCERNS
  • DO NOT share lotions or ointments
  • DO NOT over saturate with ointment; a pea sized amount is all you need!
  • DO NOT let pets come in contact with the treated area; no licking or scratching.
  • DO NOT expose to direct sunlight for 14 days. When the area is fully healed use total sunblock to prevent incorrect pigmentation of the treated skin.
  • DO NOT pull off clothing if it stuck to the treated area. Wet the offending article of clothing and slowly slide off the area
  • DO NOT submerge the treated area in water. No jacuzzi, bathtubs, pools, or oceans. Chemicals in pools and hot tubs can cause complications while healing. Wait 14-21 days or until all scabs are gone. Showering is fine!
  • DO NOT play contact sports or lay on gym mats
  • DO NOT shave the treatment area until all scabs are gone

DO NOT RUB, PICK, OR SCRATCH at the epithelial crust or scab. Correct formation of the scab is critical to the success of the removal process. The scab should be allowed to flake off on its own. There should be absolutely no scrubbing of the area or using of cleansing creams or chemicals.

Questions or Concerns?

Your treated area should heal in approximately 8 weeks. HOWEVER, it may take months for the treatment site to be completely restored to your natural skin tone. If you have any signs or symptoms such as extreme redness at the site, yellow/green discharge, foul smelling discharge, and/or a fever, STOP using any and all ointments/lotions and contact your technician and/or physician right away. Some redness around the area is normal, especially if covered with clothing. Should you have any questions, concerns, or problems, we call us immediately!

*Some people are allergic to the ingredients in hand lotions and ointments. A reaction can appear as small pimples or redness around the treatment area. Many times it is not an infection but an over saturation of ointment or lotion. Over-saturation can clog pores and increase buildup of skin cells and bacteria. If you have a medical condition or are aware of an allergic reaction, please notify your technician.
